Intentions and Goals and Resolutions – Oh my!

With the calendar slipping past us, I am sure you have considered what is around the corner in 2026. Do you set intentions? Those seem a bit softer than a hard goal but can be just as impactful. Maybe you are goal-oriented and need some stretch goals. Resolutions? We all want to be better, do better, but just like that new gym membership, they can fade away quickly.

I challenge you to give your family and loved ones the gift of getting your ‘affairs in order’. This year. Yes, this year. What are you waiting for? Is your Advance Directive up to date? Are you considering changing your will? Do you have a new diagnosis that might be changing your view on 2026? Most of us do not make sound decisions in a crisis. It is best to document your wishes on paper so nothing is left to question. I spoke with a woman recently who was losing sleep after her mother died. She wasn’t sure what her mother wanted and ‘hoped’ she did the right thing. She will live with that for a long time. That stress could have been avoided if her mother had expressed her thoughts in advance. It is a gift to your loved ones that will bring peace even while they are sorting through their grief.

The new calendar pages are waiting for you to add events, birthdays, celebrations, appointments, and maybe even some travel. Take some time before the year gets away from you and take a look at your end of life documents. Make sure they are up to date. Have a conversation with your designated healthcare agent and make sure they understand your wishes.

If you need assistance in getting organized, please reach out to me. I am happy to help whether in person, by phone, or Zoom.

I wish you a peaceful and prosperous new year!
